Critics' Verdict

Thappad received highly positive reviews. Critics praised Taapsee Pannu, Anubhav Sinha's sensitive direction, the strong ensemble and its powerful examination of marriage, dignity and gender inequality. The film had a modest theatrical run rather than becoming a major hit, and its run was cut short as COVID restrictions closed cinemas.
