Mumbai, Feb. 8 -- After the mega success of Chennai Express (2013), Nikitin Dheer became a household name. The actor who has featured in many films including Jodhaa Akbar (2008) and Mission Istaanbul (2008) and also did TV shows such as Dwarkadheesh - Bhagwaan Shree Krishna, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 5 and Naagarjuna - Ek Yoddha, feels "it's ones choices that shape the career".
"I got many offers to play the main lead in films but they were not to my liking. I am picky about my work, and hence my films are few and far apart. I am happy with the choices I have made in my career. Actors have to create their own niche, and pave their own path. For me doing good work is above anything else and I have tried to stay true to that."
Playing the role of a villain in an ongoing TV show, Nikitin adds, "It feels wonderful when people appreciate your work. As the current plot is inspired from the Ramayana and my character is based on Ravana, I am enjoying playing the role with a psycho streak. Acting is acting at the end of the day whether the role is a positive role or a negative one. I try to be less repetitive in my choice of roles in films and TV."
The actor tries to maintain a balance between his films and TV projects.
"I am lucky that I am able to devote time to both. As an actor, it is fun to be able to mix the two. As an actor on TV, people watch you every day and I enjoy TV as a medium a lot. You shoot every day for a TV show and can improve as an actor with the character's graph. While in a film, once you shoot, it is canned forever. As far as the work ethic is concerned, the two mediums are that different."
Nikitin is currently in talks for two Telegu films and a Hindi film, and hopes to lock them soon.
