Filmmaker Rohan Sippy has a cool plan to celebrate his father Ramesh Sippy’s 66th birthday on January 23 this year. Rohan has lined up a grand event where he’ll be celebrating Sippy Sr’s birthday with a tribute to his legendary film Sholay (1975) followed by a showcase of the first look of his new
directorial venture Nautanki Saala.
Rohan says, “There couldn’t be a better way to kick off Nautanki Saala. We will celebrate dad’s birthday with the first promo launch, since the title of my film is a line from Sholay. Bhushan (Kumar, producer) and I wanted to do something special for him on his birthday. In fact, when I told dad, he was glad as he started his career with Andaaz (1971) on his birthday as well. It’s a lovely way to celebrate the special day and his years in cinema with a film-related event, which is his home turf.”
As a tribute to the senior Sippy, the event will have actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunal Roy Kapur perform an act based on the famous ‘gaon walo’ scene from Sholay, where Dharamendra climbed a water tank and threatened to commit suicide if he was stopped from marrying Hema Malini’s character.
“Nautanki Saala is in a lighter vein, so we are planning something fun that will grab the attention of the media present. The details are being worked on,” says Rohan.
