Based on Chetan Bhagat’s book “Half Girlfriend”, this movie is just that.  After 2 States, released a few years ago and starring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, this is the second romantic drama by Chetan Bhagat that has been made into a movie.
The movie stars Arjun Kapoor again, this time along with Shraddha Kapoor. I am not sure how well this movie will do, because it doesn’t have Alia Bhatt’s charm working for it, nor does it have a relatable plot scripted beautifully into a movie. As for the album, here it goes:
1. Baarish
The album kicks of with a hopelessly romantic track, set in a college environment where Arjun Kapoor cannot stop admiring Shraddha Kapoor. Sung by Ash King and Shashaa Tirupati, this number is melodious and beautiful, with a touch of melancholy. Love it!
2. Phir Bhi Tumko Chahoonga
Besides the official trailer of the movie, I’ve heard the second track on the radio a few times and couldn’t help myself but change the radio channel as soon as Mithoon, Arijit Singh and Shashaa Tirupati started wailing away. Yes, that’s what I’d like to call it. Point made? Good.
Unfortunately, there is a remix version of this song called Pal Bhar, and it is as terrible as the original track, if not worse. The singers for this one are Mithoon and Arijit again. They should really reconsider their careers in Bollywood now.
3. Thodi Der
The album continues to cry and beg desperately, this song in the voices of Farhan Saeed and Shreya Ghoshal.
4. Tu Hi Hai
At this point, I’m really hoped that the pace would pick up. But this song too promises to bore the hell out of its listeners. I am wondering now, who still listens to such songs? Anyway, the singer is Rahul Mishra.
5. Lost Without You
Dragging the tempo of the album, we come to the fifth song, and nothing has changed. Well, maybe a little!  Sung by Ami Mishra and Anushka Shahaney, this track is a mix of Hindi and English lyrics. Though Anushka’s voice is lovely, her part (the English one) seems a bit forced and could have done better.
6. Stay A Little Longer
Finally something I didn’t mind listening to! This is the English version of Thodi Der, again by Anushka Shahaney, and it surely is better than the Hindi version. Got to say it’s sung a little oddly (the accent is somewhat confused). But the combination of English lyrics with a typical Bollywood composition sounds quite lovely in this track, and it’s melodious too! Also, 100% English lyrics is a first in Bollywood, I guess. Good try.
7. Mere Dil Mein
Woaaah! A Rishi Rich song after so, so long! They left us wanting for so much more when they did the Hum Tum title track. And now they are back with the title track for Half Girlfriend, and there is no reason not to like it! Is it as good as Hum Tum? No. But it’s definitely better than all the other songs in this album (except for the first track).  The other singers are Veronica Mehta and Yash Narvekar.
Love the extra Hindi dialogues added to the Mere Dil Mein Dialogue Version!
8. Half Girlfriend Love Theme
As if the first three versions of Phir Bhi Tumko Chahoongi weren’t enough, now we have the Love Theme, an instrumental version of it. I don’t even want to talk about it anymore.
9. Phir Bhi Tumko Chahoongi
This is the third version of this pathetically desperate song, and Shraddha Kapoor has lent her voice for this one. But even her angelic voice cannot help it. I am just too bored of hearing it by now. The album surely could’ve ended minus this track. *sigh*
The music album is not half as magical as 2 States! The songs are awfully long and so is the album. Out of 11 songs, 10 are slow and sad tracks that ensure that no one will ever listen to this playlist again. That is, if they make it through till the end.
