An Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan starrer and a Karan Johar film, the movie oozes of rom-com, drama, fun, freshness and some glamour here and there. Very much a Bollywood flick like all Karan’s films. Alia is just rocking Bollywood and Varun is not doing bad himself! Having debuted in Student Of The Year together, they share a cute, already established chemistry. In this film, Varun plays Humpty, the lead character, who isn’t a dashing, cool and hero-like hunk unlike in their debut or his previous roles, but someone who is imperfect and goofs up regularly. The movie releases on 11th July, 2014. As for the music? K-Jo film songs gotta be glam!

Saturday Saturday

Yet another Punjabi rap party song. Quite addictive I must admit. Definitely one of the top party hits of 2014 that will be playing everywhere in no time! The song is sung by Indeep Bakshi and Badshah, from whome this song is pretty much borrowed. Akriti Kakkar joins them in this version. I know I will be loving this song and grooving to it, just like everyone else, but I honestly have an issue with the lyrics of the songs. This track, almost like any other, has horrible generalization of girls. In fact, this song has some obscene lyrics and gets quite offensive. As for the video, I like it. Alia is sizzling in her bold make up and glittery clothes, and Varun dances really well.

A complete contrast from first track, the second song is a beautiful romantic number. Love how it starts. Love how it’s sung by Sharib, Toshi, Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. Love how it’s so soothing. Just love it. The song is originally sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and actually quite popular. The new singers have done a good job at it, keeping the same feel and tonality. But somewhere, somehow, Rahat’s magic is missing. Alia once again looks gorgeous, this time in a completely different way, as she wears a simple salwar kameez throughout the song. Varun as well is quite adorable, probably because he isn’t in his “so cool” zone and more simple and regular here.

Daingad Daingad

A folk wedding song, in the form of little stories of the elder Punjabi couples who are sharing snippets of their love life. Cute in its own way. The song is sung by Divya Kumar, Akriti Kakkar, Pratibha Baghel, Niharika Sinha and our very own Udit Narayan!

Lucky Tu Lucky Me

A typical Varun Dhawan song. In fact, he has sung this song along with Benny dayal and Anushka Manchanda. A party song, again, that that’s got a few good beats, with entertaining lyrics, especially the Hindi rap by Varun. Not bad!

Emotional Fool

Sung by Sharib – Toshi, this is another Punjabi party song. Just another Punjabi party song. Stale lyrics, stale beats. This song could have been skipped from the album.

Overall an interesting album with a good mix of different kinds of songs. The album starts with a bang and then offers more variety. It ends with another party song. But what the heck, what can you expect from Varun Dhawan?
