Mallika Sherawat: I want to change my image

New Delhi, May 15 -- A decade ago, Mallika Sherawat stunned everyone with as many as 17 on-screen kisses in her debut film, Khwahish. Now, however, it seems the actor is tired of being stereotyped and is looking to do more 'meaningful' roles.
"I really want to change this image of mine that's been widely perceived - sexy and sensuous and that of someone who only does item numbers," says the actor, who is currently shooting for Dirty Politics, a film based on the Bhanwari Devi murder case.
So, does she want to change her 'sexy' image now? "See, there's more to me than my sex appeal, so I don't just want to stick to glamorous roles ... I really want to do more meaningful and meaty roles," she says.
Mallika became a sex symbol in Bollywood with her roles in Murder (2004) and Welcome (2007) and her Hollywood debut, Hisss (2010). Her ample skin-show in item numbers 'Maiya Maiya' in Guru (2007) and 'Laila' in Tezz (2012) also fetched her the 'sexy siren' tag.
But, she now wants to work with the makers of films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Barfi!, Kahaani and Vicky Donor. "I think this the new breed of filmmakers, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Basu, Sujoy Ghosh ... they are doing amazing work. I'd love to work with them. So hello, you filmmakers! Look at me, I am not just an item girl," says Mallika, who is right now busy with beau-hunting for a reality TV show.
