Mumbai, March 6 -- From sequins, whites and velvets to pants and bows on the red carpet, fashion at the 90th Academy Awards was characteristically safe. But there was still ample inspiration for fashion followers. Here are some of the top trends from the big night:

ACING THE THIGH--HIGH SLIT

Going demure was not mandatory for these ladies at the Oscars, and we surely aren't complaining! The classic slit took a beautiful turn when many including actors Blanca Blanco and Rita Hayek aced the thigh-high slit on the big awards night, styling it in their unique ways.

ALL THAT GLITTERS

All the shine and shimmer took us back to the Gatsby as well as the disco era with several knockout style statements on the red carpet. While Jennifer Lawrence's Dior gown spoke of a feminist twist (the brand is headed by Maria Grazia Chiuri known for her 'feminist' slogan tees), Lupita's super glam sparkling dress stood out beautifully.

VELVETY TOUCH

Who doesn't love velvet? The luxe fabric has been trending across seasons, and we loved that the dapper men at Oscars owned it like a boss. The velvet dinner jacket made a strong statement with indulgent berry and bottle green taking us back to oldschool Hollywood glamour. Guys, this is all the inspiration you need to play 'fun at a formal' red-carpet-ready event.

TAKE A BOW, LADIES!

Bows have made a significant comeback, and the Oscars red carpet gave this classic accent an indelible stamp of approval. While Emma Stone paired her bow cinched blazer with fitted pants on the red carpet, Nicole Kidman looked like a dream in a blue structured gown with an oversized bow on the waist and paired her blue stunner with diamond drop earrings and pointed-toe black pumps.
