Mumbai, May 18 -- Vivek Oberoi feels strongly about the education and empowerment of the girl child. Through his NGO, Devi, he has been working towards this cause for a while. We have now learnt that the actor has introduced a scholarship for girls from the St Lawrence Public School in Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir.

"The scholarship has been named after his daughter, Ameyaa Nirvana Oberoi, and wife Priyanka Alva Oberoi. Through this scholarship, Vivek will sponsor the higher education of eight to 10 girls every year. The scholarship will also cover their housing and medical expenses," says a source.

The actor visited the school recently. "After meeting the girls, and understanding their potential, Vivek decided to sponsor their higher education. He immediately told the school authorities about his plan," adds the source.

When contacted, Vivek confirmed the news, and said, "Every girl deserves the right to pursue her dreams. If education can help these girls soar, I want to give them these wings."
