Mumbai, Oct. 29 -- While R Madhavan has showcased his acting prowess in several films, like Rang De Basanti (2006), 3 Idiots (2009) and the Tanu Weds Manu series, among others, not many know that the 45-year-old is also an avid golfer.

The actor first played the sport almost eight years ago, and got hooked to it.

To hone his skills, he also enrolled himself in a short course at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, USA. "I love golf, as it provides me with some time. I love the outdoors, and the greenery. Initially, it used to be a game only for the rich, but that has changed dramatically now," says Madhavan.

Recently, the actor also attended the inaugural edition of the Pro-AM of the Western India Oxford Masters, an event featuring professional golfers and India's top amateur golf players. In fact, he was awarded for hitting the longest drive (360 yards) at the event.

Madhavan adds that he "wants to play golf professionally". He even wants to help make the sport more popular in India. "Golf is fast catching up as a youngster's game with great rewards for the players. To make it even more popular in India, we need to make it more accessible to the newer players and even women," he says.
