NEW DELHI, Aug. 29 -- Actor-musician Luke Kenny, who played the role of Rob Nancy in Rock On!! (2008), feels that the film was more about friendship than music.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor - starring Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, and Luke himself as a rock quartet - the film completes 10 years of its release today.

He says, "I think why [Rock On!!] did so well is that because it sort of crystallised the idea that musicians can be friends. I mean, before being in a band, if you're friends before that, then you know, you can do anything, create any kind of music and be so famous. I mean, you cannot be a band if you are not friends first."

He cites a few examples. "John Lennon and Paul McCartney were friends before they made [formed] Beatles. Similarly, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were such good friends, and that's why you see Rolling Stones so big. At the end of the day, if you're friends, and you're in a band, then your sensibilities will match, and you'll end up making great music. That's not just the case in the West. Uday Benegal and Mahesh Tinaikar were great friends, and that's why they made such a great band in India (Rock Machine, later known as Indus Creed)," adds Luke, who's serving as a mentor for participants in the college bands competition Parx Hunt.

In the film, Luke's character dies from cancer - but not before one last hurrah. He says, "So you see, that the end, it's about that final show, where four friends get together and just show the world that if friends get together, then they can achieve anything. It showed the power of friendship."
