New Delhi, Nov. 8 -- Filmmaker Anand Gandhi's 2013 directorial Ship Of Theseus was presented by director Kiran Rao and he feels that the film did well because Rao gave her name to the project.

"Had Kiran not presented the film, it would have been very difficult for the film to get the kind of start that it got. Kiran pushed the film to the production house and roped in producer Sidharth Roy Kapoor to watch the film. It wouldn't have been possible without her," says Gandhi, who recently produced a film based on the rise of political party Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi.

However, Gandhi feels that steps need to be taken to provide a platform to budding filmmakers who need more exposure for their films. "We are building an infrastructure where Kiran does not have to do it again and again for someone. There has to be a platform for new filmmakers so that they are not at the mercy of already established filmmakers," says Gandhi.

Looking at the silver lining, the filmmaker feels that the numbers at box office have started pouring in favour of content-driven films.

"The good news is that in the last couple of years, the statistics are speaking for themselves. Content-driven cinema is doing much better than average Bollywood films. In fact, regular Bollywood films are fairing badly," he says. "That is good news for people like me who are trying to bring about a change, who want to see merit and narrative driven films," he adds.
