Mumbai, July 28 -- They were both seen in Life In A... Metro (2007), but they weren't paired opposite each other in the film.

Kangana Ranaut and Irrfan Khan have come close to working with each other in a few movies, but things have never worked out. Now, the two actors might finally share screen space in Ritesh Batra's (who directed The Lunchbox; 2013) yet-untitled next.

"Ritesh met Kangana around a week back and spoke to her about the film. She loved the script and decided to come on board. Even Irrfan loved the concept. Kangana has given Ritesh dates around March next year to start working on the movie," says an industry insider.

Apparently, the story is about a husband and wife who get affected by a major real-life incident that took place a few years ago. "It won't be just another run-ofthe-mill film. It makes a strong statement about a real-life issue," says the source.

GOING INTERNATIONAL

Ritesh, who has just wrapped up a British drama, The Sense Of An Ending, is now teaming up with Hollywood legends Jane Fonda and Robert Redford for the adaptation of the novel, Our Souls At Night.

"Like all his films, Ritesh will be mounting this movie as an international project too. It will also release globally. Interestingly, another film starring Kangana, based on Rani Lakshmibai (directed by Ketan Mehta), which she will start shooting for by the end of the year, is also being set up as an international film," says the source.

When contacted, Kangana replied with a text message, saying, "Ritesh and I met last week. I loved the script. I have given him dates after March, once I am done with the shoot of the film on Rani Lakshmibai." Irrfan couldn't be reached for a comment.
