Gurmeet Choudhary became a household name after his portrayal of Lord Ram in the 2008 TV show, Ramayan. The actor moved to films last year with Khamoshiyan after a stellar television career. But it appears he’s not done playing Lord Ram yet.

According to a source, Gurmeet is prepping to reprise the role of the god, but this time, he’ll be acting live in a play as part of a theatre group in London, UK. The source says, “The producers of the play needed an Indian actor, and they had heard that Gurmeet had played Ram in a TV show that was a huge hit. With his popularity in mind, they approached him to act as Ram in their play. Gurmeet loved the concept and will be doing the role.”

Gurmeet says he is excited to be part of the production, as it will depict Lord Ram not just as he’s described in the original Ramayana, the second half will have a contemporary take on the character as well. Gurmeet says, “Playing Lord Ram is a once in a lifetime opportunity and, thankfully, people were convinced with my interpretation of the divine character all those years ago. The character got me a lot of respect and has also taught me humility. Today, whatever I’ve achieved is because of this character. I believe Ram chose me in 2008 to express himself. Ram is a hero and it was a big challenge for me back then.”

Gurmeet, who will begin rehearsing for the play in London next month, admits that dividing his time between the UK and Mumbai will be tough. But he isn’t fazed. “An actor’s job is to maintain the balance between the projects they decide to take up. Right now, I’m busy with my forthcoming film, and there are several other offers. I prioritise my work and find time for both my work andmy family,” he says.
