New Delhi, March 11 -- Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, whose last directorial venture was the 2011-released Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra starrer Don 2, wants to get back to direction by next year.

"I really hope that by mid next year I'm ready to don the director's hat again," says Farhan, who has directed films such as Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Lakshya (2004) and Don (2006).

The 40-year-old is currently basking in the success of his recently released film, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, also starring Vidya Balan. "I'm very happy with the response my film has got. I'm not complaining. It always feels great when your hard work is appreciated by the audiences," says Farhan, who enjoyed working with Vidya.

"We didn't know each other much when we started working on the film, but we got along really well. It was a pleasure to work with Vidya. She's a happy, easy-going and an uncomplicated person," says Farhan, the son of veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and screenwriter Honey Irani.

Lastly, when asked about his upcoming projects, the actor, who made his acting debut in the year 2008 with Rock On!!, says, "I will be seen next in my sister's (Zoya Akhtar) multi-starrer, Dil Dhadakne Do. I'm currently penning the dialogues for the same. We will start shooting for it by May."

Meanwhile, Farhan has decided to opt out of his home production, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Raees, due to date issues.
