New Delhi, Oct. 5 -- Filmmaker Anurag Basu has been working on the script for a biopic on late legendary singer Kishore Kumar for the longest time. What's keeping him from finalising it? "It needs to be fool proof," he says.
"Though the script is ready, we can't just announce that we're doing the film. There are certain legalities. We need permission and input from people associated with Kishore Kumar and mentioned in the film. [Otherwise] during the making or after the film releases, many might raise objections," adds Basu.
The filmmaker, who last worked with actor Ranbir Kapoor in Jagga Jasoos this year, has finalised Ranbir for the titular role in the biopic. Basu says there's time before he can start shooting the film.
"Till now only Ranbir and I are confirmed. But Ranbir is busy with one film (biopic on Sanjay Dutt) now, and then he will move on to another film (Ayan Mukerji's Dragon). The situation is dicey because if Ranbir says that 'Dada I will do the film in 2019' and Kishore Kumar's family wants me to do it now, then we'll have to work things out accordingly," says Basu, who feels indebted towards the family of the singer for being supportive.
"Sumit [Kumar; son], Amit [Kumar; son], Leena [Chandavarkar; former wife] ji, Ruma [Guha Thakurta; former wife] ji, everyone is helping me. I'm thankful to the family for being supportive," he says.
