Mumbai, May 11 -- Apart from being a popular Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar is also a trained martial artist. He has a black belt in taekwondo, which he learnt in India. He also learnt Muay Thai in Bangkok, Thailand.

The actor is very passionate about martial arts. He even runs a centre in the city, where women are trained in self-defence techniques for free. Now, his 13-year-old son, Aarav Bhatia, seems to be following in his footsteps. On Monday (May 9), he got his first degree black belt in kudo after nine years of training.

"I am proud of my son's efforts. He has been training for this for many years. This is one of the proudest and most fulfilling moments of my life. The happiness I felt when Aarav won the black belt is probably more than what I felt when I was honoured with my own black belt many years ago," says Akshay.

The actor travelled to Lonavla (the championship was held there) yesterday (May 10), to surprise his son. "Aarav's journey reminds me of how hard I worked to get a black belt. My son is only 13, but I already have so much respect for him. I urge all parents to let their kids pursue martial arts. It's the most powerful, yet humbling thing in the world. My son has made me the happiest father (smiles)," says Akshay.
