Actor Salman Khan won’t be pleased with this information. While he is the one of the only B-town glitterati to be featured in the ‘Most Searched People’ category, his co-stars from Veer and Dabangg respectively, Zarine Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, ranked higher than him.
This was revealed in the Google India Zeitgeist 2010, a year-end list of the top searches on the search engine by India’s netizens. “These lists offer a unique perspective of the year's major events and hottest trends based on searches online,” sonakshisays Vinay Goel, head of products, Google India.
Queen-maker Khan’s films, Veer and Dabangg, made it to the ‘Top Movies’ category. Usual suspects including actor Katrina Kaif and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar made it into the ‘Most Searched People’ category, along with surprises like Prince actor Aruna Shields, musician Lady Gaga and ex IPL chief Lalit Modi.
Strangely, box-office disaster and Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kites was the ‘Most Searched Movie’, beating competition from Rajnikanth’s Endhiran (Robot in Hindi) and Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots. Hollywood films including Harry Potter and Twilight also featured in the top 10.
