Mumbai, June 5 -- After a long time, Bollywood has seen a film record a huge opening at the box office. Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) not only had a great weekend opening, but it also passed the Monday test.
The film shook the Indian market and is doing well internationally too. "Finally, a film has been able to harness the Kapoor scion's true potential at the box office. After drawing the highest-ever weekend numbers for a non-holiday release by overtaking 2012's Dabangg 2, the film has scored phenomenally on Monday as well. It shows how the audience loves quintessential, mainstream Hindi films at a time when everybody is trying to be different," says Akshaye Rathi, a film exhibitor and distributor.
He adds, "YJHD marks the arrival of Ranbir in the league of superstars and establishes the popularity of good Indian rom-coms in the domestic market as well as overseas. It's poised to become the first film of its genre to get into the R100 crore club, and that too, so quickly."
Trade analyst Amod Mehra says that this film has definitely pushed Deepika to the top. "She's now in the top two. YJHD has had an extraordinary weekend. Ranbir and Deepika have managed to pull in an opening which is at par with the Khans. It's definitely one of the biggest hits," he says.
