On Women’s Day, we take a look at Bollywood divas who will be seen in gutsy acts in their forthcoming films
The much anticipated sequel to Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2010 hit Ishqiya is centred around actor Madhuri Dixit. She essays the role of a
royal begum who expresses her love towards her man by mouthing shayari. While Naseeruddin Shah plays her lover in the film, Arshad Warsi will star opposite Kangna Ranaut. Ace Kathak dancer Birju Maharaj would be choreographing Madhuri for one of the songs. It is expected to release in the middle of this year.
Mary Kom’s biopic
Actor Priyanka Chopra is working hard to get an athletic body for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biopic on boxer Mary Kom (inset). PeeCee will start shooting from June onwards and is currently busy training for the role. “I am training for it at the moment and it will take me that much time to come into shape,” she said. But the rigorous training seems to be taking a toll on PC’s body. “Every part of my body hurts. Now I know how Mary Kom trains herself everyday,” she added.
Juhi Chawla/Madhuri Dixit
Touted as actor Madhuri Dixit’s comeback film, the story of Gulab Gang is based on ex Bigg Boss contestant Sampat Pal Devi who is also the founder of the Gulabi Gang. This group, which comprises of Indian women, fights against the social injustices against women in the Bundelkhand region of central India. The film’s first schedule started in December last year. Directed by Soumik Sen and produced by Anubhav Sinha, the film also stars actor Juhi Chawla in the role of a politician.
Interestingly, actor Kangna Ranaut replaced actor Irrfan for the lead role in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s upcoming production Revolver Rani. Though it’s a female centric film, the makers were earlier forced to conceptualise an actor dressing up as a woman, as a number of female actors declined to play the role. The shooting of the film will begin from March end. In this film, directed by Sai Kabir, Kangna essays a rural criminal who carries a revolver throughout the film.
MS Subbulakshmi’s biopic
Though an official announcement is awaited, but reliable sources have confirmed that actor Vidya Balan has been finalised to play music legend MS Subbulakshmi in a biopic made by admaker-cinematographer Rajiv Menon. “Talks are on. As a South Indian, I think it will be the biggest honour if I get to play MS Subbulakshmi,” says Vidya. Latest buzz is that actor Deepika Padukone might play the second lead in the film.
