As Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), Chennai Express and Ram Leela all prepare to release this year Deepika Padukone has her hands full.
However, Ayan Mukerji’s YJHD continues to be the most anticipated project of them all. And even though she has spoken about her ex-boyfriend and co-star in the film, Ranbir Kapoor, on numerous occasions at length, Deepika is calm and prepared to face the question that continues to return again and again.
Recalling how she had a great time working with him on the sets of the romantic-comedy, she says, “Ranbir and I were in a relationship. But we are friends now and will be for life. We know each other well and we had a lovely time shooting. Moreover, we were more like our characters than ourselves on the sets. I forget about my personal life when I am in character.”
And that isn’t the only dose of nostalgia for Deepika. She comes together with Shah Rukh Khan — with whom she made her Bollywood debut in Om Shanti Om in 2007 — in Chennai Express. “And it reminds me of OSO. Maybe, because both the films have Shah Rukh and both of them are love stories. But the films share no similarities and are very special in their own ways,” says Deepika, with a smile.
However, the experience of working with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who helms Ram Leela, in which she stars opposite Ranveer Singh, has been completely new for the young star. “Sanjay, in one word, is a genius. He is very clear about his ideas and he executes them brilliantly,” says the actor, who launched a new collection of Tissot watches in the city on April 8.
