Mumbai, Oct. 30 -- A new TV show might be inspired by core concept of the Sridevi-starrer, English Vinglish (2012), a film that was well received in India and some international markets for its sensitive treatment of its subject - about a woman trying to learn English.
About the TV show, a source close to the production house says, "It is a saas-bahu show, but it will show the daughter-in-law helping her mother-in-law turn into a confident, modern woman. She will teach her to speak English and master social etiquettes, like dressing up and hosting guests." The source adds that the show "is about the evolution of a woman who has been a housewife all her life. The part about learning English is inspired from Sridevi's film. It sends out the message that there are opportunities to progress at every stage of one's life."
However, the makers are downplaying the show's borrowed concept as they don't want any controversy.
While Krystle D'Souza has been finalised for the daughter-in-law's role, the makers want to rope in a popular face to play the mother-inlaw. "Veteran actor Padmini Kolhapure was approached, but things didn't work out with her. Now Savita Prabhune (earlier seen in Pavitra Rishta) and Smita Jayaker are being considered" says the source.
