New Delhi, Feb. 8 -- While many feel that the saas-bahu sagas ruling Indian TV are regressive, telly actor Sargun Mehta says it's unfair.
"It's not fair to call Indian TV regressive. The fact is that the audiences like these so called regressive saas-bahu shows and these shows are getting TRPs. And, that's why they are being made. If people start liking a progressive show like 24, which didn't get great TRPs, we will see more such shows on TV. The sad truth is that progressive shows are not being accepted by our audience," says Sargun, known for playing characters such as Phulwa, Bulbul and, currently, Ganga in Balika Vadhu, among others.
Getting typecast as a traditional character is not something she is afraid of. "The truth is that in the TV industry, only the negative characters are glam. The leads are always very traditional. I don't fear being typecast, for I do reality shows which offer enough opportunities to showcase my glam side and the real Sargun," she says.
