Race 2 TV premiere: HC asks CBFC to re-certify film

By HT

The Delhi high court on Thursday asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to re-certify the 2013 Bollywood film Race 2 before it is premiered on satellite television after a PIL was filed against alleged exhibition of nudity and vulgarity in the movie.

Disposing the plea filed by Teena Sharma, a bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice RS Endlaw directed CBFC to re-certify the film within four weeks.
Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan also locked lips in Race 2.

The court's observation came after the counsel appearing for the producers and director of Race 2 said the CBFC had already granted UA certificate to the film.

Sharma had challenged the U/A certification saying, "The film has been screened in 50 countries and it has been graded as an adult movie in 40 countries while here it had been granted U/A certification. The contents of the film are highly objectionable and therefore the film has got A certification for screening in the US and Britain."

The petitioner had accused the movie of degrading women and displaying them as commodities.

U/A certification is given to films which children above 12 years are allowed to see under parental guidance.
