Iqbal Khan: I'm a true commercial TV actor..

Mumbai, June 7 -- Iqbal Khan isn't one to mince words. Clear about his terms and agendas in life, this TV star is nonchalant about things he doesn't give a damn about.

The 36-year-old, who has been part of shows like Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai and Tumhari Pakhi, talks about not kissing on TV shows, how the small screen is his comfort zone, and how actors should be flexible to pull off any role.

A lot of your contemporaries are now doing web series and short films. What's your take on them?

I am slightly handicapped when it comes to technology. I haven't seen many webseries, so whatever little I know about them is that they are a cool way to satisfy your creative urge. But at the end of the day, I am a true commercial TV actor, and television serials are my zone.

What do you think about actors flaunting their body on screen?

I don't want to do it just for the heck of it. I don't want to be slotted as an actor who has a good body. I love to stay fit, and I can take off my shirt anytime and look good. That's the easy part as I work out regularly. But I feel there are some roles that require you to look ordinary, without bulging biceps. If I am only considered an actor who has a good physique, I might lose out on roles that the makers might feel my body isn't fit for. An actor should be flexible, so that he or she can fit into any role.

Are you comfortable doing intimate scenes on a show?

TV is primarily viewed by families, and there is a fine line that one should draw when it comes to intimate scenes. However, there is a film, I did 15 years ago, which had a kissing scene, and frankly speaking I am not proud of it. I won't do a kissing scene ever again. On TV, I don't mind romancing, but I won't go overboard with the intimate scenes.
