Mumbai, Jan. 2 -- The New Year will be welcomed by a number of new shows on the tube.
From reality shows and daily soaps to mythology-based programmes, audiences can enjoy a variety of new content on the small screen. Here are some of the television shows that one can look forward to in 2017.
The new singing-based reality TV show Rising Star will have a live, interactive format, that will put the power of determining a contestant's fate in the viewers' hands. The show will be judged by popular singers Shankar Mahadevan and Diljit Dosanjh.
YEH MOH MOH KE DHAAGE
Eijaz Khan and newcomer Niyati Fatnani will come together for Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaage. The show is said to be an unlikely love story that defies stereotypes, and features Eijaz as a 40-year-old villager. The actor will sport a never-seen-before avatar.
SA RE GA MA PA LI'L CHAMPS 6
Singers Javed Ali and Neha Kakkar will join composer and vocalist Himesh Reshammiya as judges in the sixth season of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs, which is a popular singing reality TV show for kids.
DIL HAI HINDUSTANI
Film-maker Karan Johar will join music composer Shekhar Ravjiani and singers Shalmali Kholgade and Badshah on the judging panel of the reality show Dil Hai Hindustani. Touted as a global singing reality show, it is open to participants from across the globe. The contestants are to cover only Bollywood songs.
WOH... APNA SA
This show will star Sudeep Sahir and Ridhi Dogra as a divorced couple. Disha Parmar will play Sudeep's second wife and will be seen dealing with his family and kids. Ridhi will make her return to television after a two-year hiatus.
CHANDRAKANTA - PREM YA PAHELI?
Producer Nikhil Sinha's Chandrakanta - Prem ya Paheli? is an adaptation of Devki Nandan Khatri's novel Chandrakanta. The romantic fantasy is about two lovers from rival kingdoms - the princess Chandrakanta of Vijaygarh, and the prince Virendra Singh of Naugarh.
DIL SE DIL TAK
Sidharth Shukla and Rashami Desai return to the small screen with Dil Se Dil Tak. The show is about a young couple that wishes to start a family but has to fulfil the dream through surrogacy. Jasmine Bhasin plays the role of the surrogate mother.
Set against the backdrop of Haryana, Meri Durga is the story of a father (played by Vicky Ahuja), who goes against all odds, and is determined to get his daughter (played by Ananya Agarwal) educated. The show will also highlight how she, despite her best efforts, keeps falling short of his expectations.
Peshwa Bajirao depicts the journey of Bajirao from his childhood to his youth. The show will focus on the boy's parenting and his journey to becoming a great Maratha warrior by battling the Mughal empire. Child actor Rudra Soni plays Bajirao, and Raza Murad, Manish Wadhwa, Siddharth Nigam and Pallavi Joshi will be seen in pivotal roles.
EK VIVAH AISA BHI
This show tells the story of a young girl who, due to certain circumstances, lives with two mother-inlaws. The show marks the return of popular actor Tasneem Sheikh, along with Himani Shivapuri and Sonali Nikam, among others.
