New Delhi, Feb. 8 -- The upcoming television series by filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who is known for directing acclaimed films like Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar, will soon be shot in Uttarakhand.
Gowariker reached the hill town, Uttarakashi, on Tuesday along with his team for a recce tour.
The 104-episode series, titled Everest, is being produced and conceptualised by Gowariker, who is making a comeback to the small screen after more than a decade. He had earlier acted TV shows such as Circus and CID, before making his directorial debut with Pehla Nasha in 1993.
The noted filmmaker, whose critically-acclaimed Lagaan (2001) had earned an Oscar nomination, has been on a sabbatical since his last Bollywood release, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey in 2010.
The crew reportedly visited the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) upon their arrival in Uttarakashi. A source close to the crew shared that the team comprising around 15 key members besides Gowariker is expected to stay in Uttarakashi for the next few days.
Later on, the entire shooting fleet of around 100 members will reach to shoot in the hill state. When contacted, a spokesperson from the NIM confirmed the news saying, "Yes, the team reached here today. The shooting is expected to begin soon." The lead actors of the series are also expected to receive basic mountaineering training. As per our source, the shooting is likely to take place in Dehradun and Uttarakashi districts at places like NIM, Dhokrani Glacier, Jolly Grant and Buddha Temple, among others. The final schedule is likely to be confirmed after the team's recce.
Reportedly, the show is based on extreme Himalayan mountaineering, revolving around its young protagonist's dream to conquer Mt. Everest.
