Gauri Pradhan: People might just hate me...

Mumbai, Sept. 16 -- As actor Gauri Pradhan - most remembered for her role as Nandini in the TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi - turns a year older today, she is gearing up for her maiden negative role on small screen.
The entrepreneur- actor, who was last seen in Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, feels birthdays are all about being with the family. Excerpts from the interview:
Do you get excited about birthdays?
Not really. Earlier I used to get excited, but now I am more thrilled about my kids' birthdays. As a child, I used to be delighted about having birthday parties at home, where mum would bake a cake and decorate the house. But, over the years, it is about spending time with the family. I generally spend the birthday eve with my husband (Hiten Tejwani) and friends and the whole day with the family. That's the best way to celebrate. This year, Hiten has been travelling for his play, so he won't be here. So, we had a pre-birthday celebration last week in Goa.
With a family and business to take care of, what drives you to get back to the sets?
I've been busy this year with pop-up exhibitions in Mumbai and Delhi, and now we will go to the two-tier cities. It took up most of my time. Now I'm also doing a TV show which is keeping me busy. And as far as acting is concerned, it's the high every actor wants to feel. I was happy not acting but when the opportunity came, I couldn't give it up. When you are not working, you don't feel the need to be in front of the camera, but once you start preparing for a role, the whole attraction of being in front of a camera gets to you.
Are you planning to shock people with your negative role?
People might just hate me. This show is different and exciting for me. I am playing an out-and-out negative role which I have never done in my career. As an actor, I feel you should do all kinds of roles and I'm looking forward to the audience's reactions. I signed up only because I was given a negative role.
