MUMBAI, Oct. 26 -- A few days ago, HT Cafe reported that Akshay Kumar would be playing the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's remake of the Tamil hit, Ramana (2002). Now, if all goes well, Tamannah Bhatia will star opposite him in the film, which also marks the Bollywood debut of popular south director, Jayam Raja.
"The film is starting in mid-2013, so the makers are in no hurry to cast a girl. It's confirmed that Tamannah has been in talks with Bhansali and Raja for a few days now. She too has been busy with several south Indian flicks besides her Hindi film, Himmatwala, so she hasn't been able to take a call yet," says an insider close to the development.
Of late, Tamannah has been in the news for the Sajid Khan film, in which she is paired with Ajay Devgn. "We too have heard that she is doing a film with Akshay, but we aren't sure which one it is," says an insider from the Himmatwala unit. In all likelihood, the actor will start work on the Ramana remake only after wrapping up this film.
Although Tamannaah remained unavailable for a comment, her father Santosh Bhatia said, "We are in talks with the makers, but nothing is formalised yet. Since she has been busy with Himmatwala, she hasn't had the time to go through the script. She wants to read it thoroughly before taking up the offer."
For the uninitiated, the actor made her debut in the 2005 Bollywood film, Chand Sa Roshan Chehra, before going on to work in south Indian films.
