As is the tradition with all Mukta Arts projects, Subhash Ghai will announce a new film on the anniversary of his production company (also his own marriage anniversary) on October 24. As the company completes 34 years, Ghai will return as producer-director-writer with a romantic drama. The last
film he directed was Yuvraaj (2008).
Ghai says the movie will star two newcomers in the lead, but will have stars in the cast. “You will have to wait for the launch to know further details,” he says. He does, however, reveal that he has signed music directors Ismail Darbar and Salim-Sulaiman, to compose the music, along with lyricist Irshad Kamil.
Though Darbar has composed hit soundtracks for films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2002), he hasn’t signed a film in the last four years. But, that doesn’t bother Ghai, “The film industry might forget a talent if they don’t work for a while, but all it takes is one hit song. I want soulful music, and I feel Ismail can create that. I’ve also signed Salim-Sulaiman to bring in some contemporary style.”
About the film, he says, “It is the journey of a young woman from the mountains to a city, so the music must reflect the various phases in her life.”
Ask him why he wants newcomers in the lead, and he says, You can’t make a film your way if you have to cater to stars and their image. I applaud Karan Johar for making Student Of The Year with newcomers.”
