Sonam Kapoor: 'I've grown a thicker skin'

New Delhi, June 1 -- At 27, Sonam Kapoor has learnt to care much less for what the world says. The actor, who turned quite some heads at the recently held Cannes Film Festival, says in an interview to Vogue India, "I've definitely grown a thicker skin since I joined the industry."

And, she's making a conscious effort to keep away everything that doesn't make her feel good. "I wanted to get rid of all the negativity around me ... I purged my phone contacts, re-evaluated my career, looked at the movies I was signing and met with a nutritionist," she says.

That's not the only way she says she has grown up. "I've been financially independent since I was 18 years old. I live with my parents, but I support my team with my own earnings," says the actor, whose next film, Raanjhana, is creating a lot of buzz.

While Sonam's style statements make many go green, it's also often said that if Kapoor spent as much time on her acting as she did on her wardrobe, she would be in a different league. "It doesn't bother me," she shrugs. "When I started, there were no stylists. It was all the stereotypical heroine look -highlighted hair, tight dresses, heavy Indian wear. I did start a new trend.

Now everyone has started experimenting with their hair and clothes and there's a reason for that."
