Simran Kaur Mundi: Bollywood over London fashion week!

Mumbai, Dec. 15 -- She is ready for her maiden rendezvous with the silver screen. But former Miss India-Universe, Simran Kaur Mundi could have easily missed the opportunity to work in films. After winning the beauty title, Simran was set to hit the ramp at the prestigious London Fashion Week, but by a stroke of luck, she ended up bagging a role in her first film, Jo Hum Chahein.

"Everything was almost set but then, I had to come back to India for some paperwork. My contract was for six months and it could have gone up to a year," says she. Once she returned back to Mumbai, Simran randomly checked if the auditions for Jo Hum Chahein were still on. "And luckily, they were. So, I decided to try my luck. I was one of the last girls who auditioned, and then they chose me instantly," she says with a smile.

Yet, the Punjabi girl doesn't regret missing out on the London Fashion Week. "After I won the Miss India title, I wanted to make a mark in the international modelling arena. And the London stint could have been the step towards it. But I don't regret it, because I'd been bitten by the acting bug a long time ago," she laughs.

Interestingly, Simran credits Kareena Kapoor's character Poo from Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham for pushing her to pursue a full-time career in Bollywood. "I was really impressed with that role of Kareena's. I was hooked to the scene where she is talking to herself in the mirror," says the model turned-actor, adding she wants to concentrate only on films for now. "Modelling becomes monotonous after a while, so I will be happy to try luck in the film world because this is challenging as well."

In Jo Hum Chahein, Simran plays the part of a "no-nonsense girl". Ask her about talks of her real life chemistry with co-star Sunny Gill and she says: "He is a fabulous person and we get along well. But there's nothing going on between us."
