Sanjay Dutt to turn producer!

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, Oct. 15 -- After Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Akshay Kumar, now Sanjay Dutt is also set to join the league of actors-turned producers.

Under his soon-to-belaunched banner, Sanjay Dutt Productions, he will produce three films with ace Bollywood directors.

"We are working with Rohit Shetty, Milan Luthria and Prabhudheva," says Sanjay, who only wants to concentrate on making massy entertainers. However, he does not intend on starring in all his productions. "I will act only if the director feels I fit a particular role," says Sanjay, who seems more inclined towards working with Rohit Shetty from the selected lot.

"He is a great director and has struggled a lot. He has the sensibilities needed to make commercial films." The actor, who now wants to revive his action-star image, feels romantic-comedies in Bollywood have sidelined hero-oriented potboilers. "In the '80s we made really hard-hitting films. Then with all those strong one-liners, the clapping and whistling in the theatres also disappeared. I'm happy all of that is coming back now; that's what heroes are all about," he says.

Meanwhile, Sanjay is busy shooting for the yet-untitled Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Saamy (2003). Southern director KS Ravikumar, who is also helming the remake of Saamy, has also roped Sanjay in for his next project. "He is a fantastic director and has made 48 films. Fortyseven of those films are blockbusters. I have joined hands with him for another film called Godfather; I think we are adapting that," reveals Sanjay.

Produced by TP Agarwal, the Hindi adaptation of Saamy tells the story of a north Indian cop in south India.
