Mumbai, May 24 -- Since his debut in the late '80s, Salman Khan has played a variety of characters across different genres.
The actor is now set to play the lead role in a film which is a satirical take on the society today. Tentatively titled Mental, the film is a remake of the Chiranjeevi-starrer Stalin, which was made in Telugu in 2006. "The film isn't a pure satire like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983).
But it does mix up Salman's forte - action and comedy - with several moments of satirical humour," says a trade insider. Stalin's storyline was about a man's mission to help others and the make the world a better place.
"Neither Salman nor Sohail want to make it a preachy film. It's going to be high on entertainment like all of Salman's other films," adds the insider. When contacted, Sohail says, "We will only be able to talk about it properly once it's shot."
Mental also stars newcomer Daisy Shah and Sanaa Khan with Tabu and Mukul Dev. The film, in all likelihood, will hit theatres towards the end of this year or early next year. There have been reports about the film's title not being final, and Sohail clarifies, "It's a tentative working title for now."
