New Delhi, July 17 -- Saif Ali Khan will host the South Africa India Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA) in Durban on September 6. A curtain-raiser for the event, held on July 15 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, aimed to create a cultural exchange between the entertainment industries of South Africa and India.
Celebrities from both countries are part of a panel for the awards. Waheeda Rehman, Mukesh Bhatt, Boman Irani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farah Khan are the Indians on the list. The South African panelists include actor and writer Welcome Msomi, theatre and TV personality Saira Essa, film industry veteran Peter Rorvik, performing artiste Linda Bukhosini, theatre personality Caroline Smart and actress Leleti Khumalo.
Celebrity Locker, a Mumbai-based events company, has joined hands with the Province of KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism of Durban to make the ceremony possible.
At the curtain-raiser, Waheeda unveiled the SAIFTA trophy with John Abraham. Other attendees included Manoj Bajpai, Sanjay Gupta, Suniel Shetty, Apoorva Lakhia, Apurva and Shilpa Agnihotri, Mukesh Bhatt, Sadha Naidoo, board chairperson, Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, and Neliswe Dlamini, project manager, Department of Economic Development and Tourism.
A Hall Of Fame with hand prints of eminent personalities from the Indian and South African film and TV industry was showcased, and it will also be displayed at a prominent location in Durban.
