Rowdy reminds of Dabangg

If you’ve wanted to shout déjà vu after watching the promos of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Rowdy Rathore, we don’t blame you. More and more viewers have reported that the promos of the film, where the actor plays a cop sporting a moustache and romances village belle Sonakshi Sinha, reminds them of Salman Khan’s 2010 blockbuster, Dabangg.

The promos of Rowdy Rathore bear an uncanny resemblance to Salman’s films, not just in appearance of the lead actors but also in the action sequences. A promo shows Akshay walking into a construction site ala ‘Dabangg’ style, in slow motion, and then mouthing the dialogue — ‘Jo main bolta hu, wo main karta hu. Jo main nahi bolta wo main definitely karta hun’ — that also reminds viewers of Salman’s famous dialogue from another hit Wanted (2009) — ‘Ek baar jo maine commitment kar di toh mein apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta’. The promo also features Sonakshi Sinha in a look similar to hers in Dabangg.

The Twitter is abuzz with people talking about the striking similarity. “Saw the trailer for rowdy rathore. Cheap rip off of dabangg at best (sic),” tweeted Chitgo. “A second hand version of Dabangg!” says Kavina_p20. “After watching Rowdy Rathore Trailer, 1st thing came to my mind is it is Dabngg Part 2 or something,” says @Bamooozle.

Dabangg’s producer Arbaaz Khan, (who is also directing Dabangg 2), says, “What do I say? Dabangg is a cult film and is bound to inspire others. I take it as a compliment.” Akshay, however, defended Rowdy Rathore, that hits the theatres on June 1, saying, “Don’t compare me with Salman. He is my friend. He does his work and I do mine.”
