Mumbai, Nov. 3 -- Filmmaker Rohan Sippy is elated about two huge recent developments in his first Broadway music life. His first Broadway mus cal opens at the end of the month in Delhi, followed by Mumbai, in the first week of December. And his father Ramesh Sippy returns to direct a movie, likely to release next year around Diwali, alongside director Yash Chopra's comeback film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.
"Shridhar (screenwriter Shridhar Raghavan) is still working on the script. It may take a month or two. I can't say with absolute clarity. But once that's done towards the end of the year, hopefully we'll start casting and then filming."
"I'm going to work closely with my dad on this project. I can't wait for him to get back to the studios," says Rohan, who isn't too sure if the film will be able to meet the reported Diwali deadline. "It all depends on when we start shooting." Although his father has been a huge fan of thrillers, Rohan adds that he's never directed a film or produced a TV show in the genre.
"He reads a lot of thriller books. He watches thrillers. And now, when he's directing his first I just want to work closely with him and learn a lot because it's not an everyday opportunity to work with someone credited with some of the biggest Hindi movies of all time," adds Rohan, who is currently busy with his Broadway musical.
Rehearsals for the show begin early next eek. "The music is ready too. My dad and sister Sheena have been a huge support. I never thought I would direct a 30 to 35 minute theatre production," says Rohan, who was approached to direct a stage show, which was more inclined towards fashion some time ago. "I told the organisers then that I didn't know much about fashion, but I know a little about music. They gave me my space. I hope they like the result too." Rohan had last directed Dum Maaro Dum earlier this year.
