Police officers and fitness trainers from the force offer tips to actor to get the look right for the film. Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) is known to push his actors to get into the skin of their character. He got Vivek Oberoi to don a muscular look for Rakhta Charitra (2010) and now RGV has asked Rana Daggubati to get into the shoes of a real cop.
Paired along with Amitabh Bachchan, Rana is playing a policeman in RGV’s Department which is a gritty gangster vs cop thriller. Rana admits that a lot of research went into getting the look right for Department.
He says, “I wanted to get all the details and nuances right. I got to spend some time with the police officers in the gym. Since a workout regime for a police officer focuses on strength and stamina, we had to change up my routine to get that look right.”
The actor also spent a couple of weeks with the some officers and fitness trainers of the police department to discuss his look extensively.
In fact, the trainers even offered to hit the gym with him to guide him and modify his workout regime to be in line with that followed by the special police forces.
A source from the film says, “The officers had a chat with Rana and his trainer and worked on his workout regime and offered complete guidance for two weeks to help him do justice to the role.”
The actor has bulked up by making use of functional training that officers are put through as part of their endurance program.
The source adds, “They even suggested that Rana sport a moustache in the film for a strong and rugged look.”
