Priyanka goes 'single'!

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, Jan. 20 -- More than six months ago, actor Priyanka Chopra announced that she would be turning a singer and cutting her debut album. After the announcement, the actor made quite a few trips, some running into weeks and months, to LA, USA, to work on her songs.

When asked about the status of her album, the title of which is still not finalised, the former Miss World admits she has finished a large chunk of work on her songs. She also adds that the album should be out within the current calendar year. "It's one of the biggest achievements of my life. I'd always wanted to be a singer. My father (Dr Ashok Chopra) inspired me big time. And now, everything has fallen into place. We should be bringing out our first single around spring-summer," beams Priyanka, adding, "Then, we'd drop another single in a month or two and so on. We won't be releasing the entire album together because that's not how music artistes function in the US. They bring out singles."

The 29-year-old National Award winner shares manager Troy Carter with her favourite pop star, Lady Gaga. When asked if she plans to release the entire album together at least in India, Priyanka says, "No, it won't be possible because of the people I'm associated with. They have a certain way of functioning and I think I'll stick to what they ask me to do. There's nothing wrong with bringing out singles. We all enjoy it when an international artiste cuts one. Why can't I? From inception, rumours have stated that the actor is likely to collaborate with Lady Gaga and hip-hop singer Jay Sean. There's also buzz that with every single that she cuts, Priyanka will also bring out a brand new video. Bring this up and she sighs, "It's early to tell you who all I've collaborated with. Once I'm ready to cut the first single, maybe then I can reveal names."
