Paschim Banga, now starring SRK

NEW DELHI, Nov. 12 -- Actor Shah Rukh Khan has just taken on a new starring role. On starring role. On Thursday, the 46-year-old actor was named the ambassador of Bengal, while he was in Kolkata to inaugurate the 17th Kolkata International Film Festival.

Talking to the media, Khan said, "I have a cricket team in Kolkata and I frequent this city so often. I am also learning Bangla. I am pleased to represent Bengal as its brand ambassador." The actor was reportedly approached by Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee at the festival.

SRK is not the first actor to be a state ambassador Amitabh Bachchan is the face of Gujarat and Sushmita Sen has been approached to endorse Chattisgarh.
