Mumbai, Aug. 16 -- Olympic gold medallist, wrestler, Sushil Kumar has just had a stint with Bollywood. For a wrestling sequence in Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande, debutant director and actor Parvin Dabas wanted things to be absolutely perfect. So, he contacted the wrestling champion Sushil for some tips on the sport.
Parvin , who comes from a rural background, had to train extensively for a wrestling scene and was training in Najafgarh. When Parvin contacted the local wresters, they readily agreed to open up an 'akhara' for him for over a week. Parvin then got in touch with Sushil, who was readying himself for the London Olympics 2012. In fact, the latter was more than keen to advise him because he is game for anything to promote the sport.
Confirms Parvin: "Yes, I went to meet Sushil on the Delhi-Haryana border where he trains at a Sports Institute of India facility. It was great to meet an Olympic champion who's humble and comes from a very simple background, which is something we both share."
According to the Khosla Ka Ghosla actor, Sushil was "very happy to learn that I had a wrestling sequence in the film." He adds: "He was extremely generous with his knowledge of wrestling. I plan on having a screening of the film for him and the other wrestlers as a token of my gratitude."
Parvin, on his part, worked on his body extensively for more than six months to get the lean toned look that wrestling requires, before he went to practice at the akhara. So the wrestlers who were expecting a soft city boy were pleasantly surprised. For the uninitiated, Parvin makes his debut as the director with the film, which has been produced by his wife and actor Preeti Jhangiani.
