It seems that Ranbir Kapoor is in the mood to socialise these days. The actor, who apparently turned down Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming film (a family drama involving siblings), met the director when he was in London recently. “He was promoting Besharam and she happened to be there on a break. They caught up at a restaurant and had a long chat,” says a source.
Incidentally, Ranbir was also approached to star in Zoya’s last release, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011). “Then when her next film didn’t work out either, rumours of a rift between them surfaced. But all that was evidently speculation, because the two of them met cordially and spent hours catching up,” says the insider, adding that Ranbir told Zoya that he really respects her and her work. “He explained to her that he held no grudges and that both the projects didn’t work out due to genuine reasons. Zoya also told him that she has no ill feelings towards him,” reveals the source.
Meanwhile, back in India, Ranbir made Alia Bhatt’s day with a kind gesture. About 10 days ago, the actor made a surprise phone call to the young star and praised her performance in the upcoming movie, Highway. “Since Imtiaz Ali (director of the movie) is a close friend, he organised a screening for him. Ranbir called it one of the finest movies he’s ever seen and was bowled over by the film,” says an insider. Since Highway is set to release only in February 2014, Alia was not at all prepared for such a phone call. “She was really surprised and, of course, she was also on cloud nine after that call,” adds a source close to the actor.
Despite repeated attempts, Ranbir and Imtiaz didn’t respond to our calls. Zoya, too, refused to comment on the story.
