Mumbai, July 16 -- Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin is the latest to join the long list of personalities whose biopics are currently under production. And although Ekta Kapoor is yet to go on record about the project, we have learnt that work on the much-talked-about film is already underway.
Apparently, Ekta has brought on board her favourite writer, Rajat Arora (who wrote The Dirty Picture, 2011, and the Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai series) to start work on the script. "When Ekta approached him, Rajat said he needed time to work on it. She was okay with it and told him, 'Take your time. But come up with a great story,'" says the insider.
It's believed that the producer signed a contract with Azharuddin last month for a handsome amount to acquire the rights to the biopic. Although an official announcement is still awaited, the film is expected to go on the floors later this year.
"Ekta is very kicked about the project, but at the moment, she is tight-lipped as talking about it might create unnecessary complications, considering Azhar's controversial career," adds the insider. Although rumours suggest that Ekta has three actors on her wish list - Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh - insiders insist that such talks are absurd. "The casting cannot be done before the script is completed. It will take three months at least," adds the insider.
Despite repeated attempts, Ekta remained unavailable for a comment.
