I hope Russia opens up a big market for Indian cinema: Ranbir Kapoor

Actor Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming movie, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, is set to release in Russia, and and the 30-year-old says he is happy to showcase his work in a country which shared a special bond with his grandfather — legendary actor Raj Kapoor. The film is a love story between Ranbir and actor
and Ranbir’s former girlfriend, Deepika Padukone.

It will be Ranbir’s first project to release in Russia. “My grandfather was very popular in Russia. The people of Russia gave tremendous love to him and his films. Finally, I am getting a chance to release my film in Russia. I hope that Russia opens up a very big market for Indian cinema. I think Indian film market is growing globally. We have big markets in Brazil, China, Japan and I think Russia coming into the picture would be great for Indian cinema,” says Ranbir.

Raj Kapoor’s films including Awara and Mera Naam Joker are immensely popular in Russia. In fact, Mera Naam Joker featured a Russian actor Kseniya Ryabinkina in its cast. Kapoor was also on the jury of the Moscow International Film Festival. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is Ranbir’s second outing with director Ayan Mukerji after Wake Up Sid (2009). The film also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin in pivotal roles, and releases today.
