Mumbai, May 30 -- Reports about actor Danny Denzongpa playing a negative role in Karan Malhotra's Shuddhi have been circulating for a while. But now, we've been told that Denzongpa is also set to star in Salman Khan's Mental.
He will play the role of the main villain and will start shooting for the film in Pune today (May 31).
Confirming the news, Denzongpa says, "I signed the film for Salman. Today, whatever he touches turns to gold. At present, his stature is what Amitabh Bachchan's was in the '70s and '80s."
The movie is being directed by Salman's brother, Sohail Khan. "The makers got Danny on board because they wanted a powerful villain to face a powerful hero in the film," says an industry insider. Incidentally, Denzongpa and Salman last shared screen space in 1991. The actors were seen in a father-son role in the movie, Sanam Bewafa. Mental will mark their reunion after 22 years.
"After Sanam Bewafa, we were supposed to do another film together, but it got shelved. The script of Mental is very good. Sohail had offered me two films in the past, but they didn't work out. So I couldn't say no this time," says Denzongpa.
