Mumbai, May 29 -- A while back, there was conjecture over whether Ranbir Kapoor would revive his family banner, RK Films. While he did show interest, nothing concrete has come of it yet.
However, it led to expectations that Ranbir would eventually try his hand at production. And now, the move has come earlier than expected. The 30-year-old is set to co-produce a film with Anurag Basu. In an earlier interview with HT Cafe, Ranbir said, "I'm in talks with Anurag for his new film." The actor - whose next release is Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - is now set to work again with the Barfi! director.
Anurag will write, co-produce and direct the film titled Jagga Jasoos, which will see Ranbir play a detective.
On condition of anonymity, a crew member close to the production says, "Anurag is still working on the script, and is in touch with Ranbir about the storyline. The film is kind of Sherlock Holmes-meets James Bond-meets Mission Impossible."
The source adds, "It will have everything a typical blockbuster has - music, comedy and some action. The moment Ranbir and Anurag heard the idea, they decided to work on it." The movie, in all likelihood, will go on the floors in early 2014.
For the time being, Ranbir and Anurag have put the Kishore Kumar biopic - which they had discussed earlier - on hold. "It will require more research and preparation. And neither Ranbir nor Anurag want to go ahead in a hurry," adds the source. Since Anurag is still writing the script, the remaining details, such as the female lead and the supporting cast, are yet to be worked out.
Despite repeated attempts, neither Ranbir nor Anurag could be reached for comments.
