Mumbai, May 23 -- A character's look often sets the tone for their role in a film. That's why director Vikramaditya Motwane left no stone unturned when it came to the wardrobe of Sonakshi Sinha, his leading lady in Lootera.
Although Sonakshi plays a young girl in the film, she is decked in saris throughout. And one particular song sequence required her to wear nine different saris, which together cost around R3 lakh.
A source says, "Sonakshi wore nine saris in the song 'Sawaar loon'. It isn't lip synced and is shown as a montage spread over various days, so the outfits were essential. Each sari was especially chosen, and cost R30,000- 35,000. Most of them were handloom silk. The song has turned out beautiful and Vikram is happy with the results." Lootera is a period love story, which stars Ranveer Singh in the lead, opposite Sonakshi.
The actor adds that since she's worn saris for the most part of the film, she's now become an expert in draping them.
"Vikram and his team have planned my look beautifully and aesthetically. I changed my sari nine times for 'Sawaar loon', but it was worth it when I saw the results," she says, adding, "That was my first day on the sets of Lootera and we were shooting montages for the song. It's something I had never seen before."
