The 2000 original is the story of Raju (Akshay Kumar), a tenant of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte aka Babu Bhaiyya (Paresh Rawal). The due were joined by another roommate Shyam aka Ghanshyam (Sunil Shetty) and the story traced how three unemployed men try to improve their financial situation. The film was very popular, and the three characters became iconic.
The second offering of the franchise Phir Hera Pheri (2006) was written and directed by Neeraj Vora. With this third film, the original writer Siddique, has also returned to the franchise. The whole cast and crew, except the cinematographer, from the original is teaming up again. “We will be missing Jeeva, our cameraman, who passed away recently,” says Suniel.
The makers and cast are already in talks to figure out the right time to start the film. “Akshay recently had talks with Firoz Nadiadwala (the franchise producer). We aim to start shooting sometime in the second half of the year,” says Suniel, who has other films lined up in the first half of the year.
