They may use Twitter to share personal moments or promote their work, but Bollywood’s top eight Twitter celebrities prefer to stay away from commenting on social issues, reveals a study by a digital research agency.
The research, conducted by Thought Buzz on the last 100 tweets of actors Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, shows that Big B, who tweets up to seven times a day (the highest daily figure among A-listers) has only dedicated 2% of his tweets to a social cause.
Priyanka Chopra scored the lowest on this count with 0% socially relevant tweets.
Internationally, celebs are known to promote causes that they believe in, through Twitter. Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher, who has the maximum followers among his colleagues, makes sure to talk about his dear charities through his tweets.
On the other hand, 63% of Big B’s and 55% of SRK’s tweets were about personal moments. “Most celebs want people to perceive them not as stars but as human,” says ad man Prahlad Kakkar.
Contrary to perception, most stars do not even tweet about the brands they endorse. Only Sonam Kapoor had 23% of her tweets mentioning a brand — the highest in this category. “Indian celebs need to enlarge their area of conversation,” says filmmaker Pritish Nandy.
