Santana's Indian connection!

By Hindustan Times

New Delhi, Oct. 30 -- The world renowned Mexican and American guitarist Carlos Santana is all praises for India on his first visit here.

"India is the destination if someone is looking for spiritual freedom. I am honoured to be here," said the ten time Grammy Award winner after he checked into capital's ITC Maurya.

"I carry the belief of the sixties-believing in world peace. India had Mahatma Gandhi who believed in it and it is also a country which teaches you the real meaning of freedom," he says.

The guitarist also enjoyed the South Indian food in Bengaluru. "I tried the South Indian breakfast and it was Oh My God food! I gorged on masala dosa, the spicy cauliflower sabzi and dals. But my favourite was the mango lassi," he says.

A self-confessed hippy, Santana does not rule out collaborating with singers Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. "Music is all about complimenting each other. Its not football match. And I am not ruling out any collaborations with Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber." Santana, who has been on world stage since the last 50 years also shares his love and respect for Indian classical musicians like Pt Ravishankar and Ali Akbar Khan. "Ali Akbar Khan was the god of the gods. I wanted to collaborate with him but it couldn't happen." He also revealed that he started off playing the violin but then decided to shift to guitar. "I am so glad that I took that decision back then," he say. As they say, All's well that ends well.
