Priyanka Chopra has been signed for Ali Abbas Zafar's Gunday, starring Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Reportedly Katrina Kaif was being considered for the role.
The official spokesperson of YRF has confirmed that Priyanka would play the lead role in the film, reports Mumbai Mirror.
Wonder why Priyanka was chosen over Katrina? “The lead female role is rather challenging and performance based. And the makers thought that Priyanka would fit the bill better,” a source told the tabloid.
Amidst the most turbulent times in the history of Kolkata, then Calcutta, from 1971 to 1988, Bikram and Bala rose from being small time wagon breakers and coal thieves to becoming the biggest and most powerful black marketing mafia men, a press release issued by Yash Raj Films said.
A rare combination of vigour and wit, the two were inseparable and the city of Calcutta swore by their friendship, as their notoriety became the stuff of legends. The People of this sprawling city started calling these two carefree rebels--'Gunday', the release added.
"The film is titled Gunday and will be completely shot in Kolkata. It's a period film set in 1971 to 1988. Both my actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh will be seen as Bengalis in the film. It's not a love triangle and the film will go on floors in December," Ali Abbas Zafar, who debuted with Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, told IANS.
When asked will Arjun and Ranveer work on their Bengali diction, Zafar said: "It's still a choice that I have not yet made. It's a commercial Hindi film and I want to stick to my subject with honesty. As far as Bengali diction is concerned, we are still finalising that, we don't want to make it sound funny."
This would be Priyanka's second film with YRF after Pyaar Impossible (2010).
Both Ranveer and Arjun started their career in Bollywood with YRF movies-– Band Baaja Baarat (2010) and Ishaqzaade (2012) respectively and both these films did quite well at the box office.
This is both Ranveer and Arjun's third film with the banner and the first time that these two powerful performers have come together.
